Power a School for 200 Children in Rural Nigeria
Summary
The Ishahayi Beach School Foundation has built a new classroom building at a successful school serving 200 students in rural Nigeria. The village at Ishahayi has no mains electricity, and this project will bring lights, fans, desks and supplies to the new classrooms. Fans allow children to learn during the very hot dry season and lights illuminate textbooks during the cloudy rainy season. A new generator will power both buildings, as well as a pump that brings water for drinking and sanitation.
Challenge
Ishahayi is a small Yoruba fishing village located on the barrier island between Lagos and Badagry. There is no industry on the island, and no electricity. Being only accessible by boat or canoe, this area is isolated from the infrastructure and support that mainland areas of Lagos enjoy, such as a government-funded school. This project will provide lights, fans, desks and classroom supplies to the newly expanded Light Nursery and Primary School, allowing more children to get an education.

Solution
This project will provide funds to complete the wiring, provide power, and outfit a second school building at Ishahayi. The new building will relieve overcrowded classrooms. As the school has room to expand, more children will be able to obtain an education and the quality of their lives will be dramatically improved.

Long-Term Impact
The Light Nursery and Primary School currently educates around 200 children. As the school expands and is able to add additional grade levels, more children will be reached. Education will give these children the opportunity to rise out of poverty and provide for their future.
